South Africa : New Hub For Cameroonian Players

With the arrival of Marou Souaibou, the country’s division one championship dubbed Dstv premiership now counts about six football feet from the land of the Indomitable Lions.

In search of greener pastures, the South African division one championship dubbed the Dstv premiership is currently a fertile ground for Cameroonian football players. The latest to arrive South Africa is Cameroon’s 2022Ballon d’Or, Marou Souaibou who has just increased the number of Cameroonian players in the Dstv Premiership to six. The 22-year-old forward from Coton Sport of Garoua recently moved to Orlando Pirates. The South African club announced on January 19, 2023 that the player had signed a deal which ends in 2025. This new contract is no doubt due to his performance with Coton Sport; winning two league titles. Souaibou thus goes into Orlando Pirates with a lot of potentials to meet fellow country man, Eva Nga.
Nga joined the club in late 2022 and the Cameroonian striker’s football journey has taken him to Mozambique and Portugal before his introduction to South African football in the colours of Bidvest Wits halfway through the 2019/2020 season. Eva Nga enjoyed personal success during a two-year spell at Eastern Cape outfit Chippa United. For the 2022/2023, he has reportedly played nine matches and scored one goal for Orlando Pirates at press time.
In the same light, two former Elite One stars are plying their trade for Cape Town City. They are Bertrand Mani and Fidel Brice Ambina. 25-year-old Bertrand Mani left Colombe Sportive to join the South African club in November 2022 after clinching the golden boot in Cameroon’s Elite One Championship in the 2021-2022 season....
