PM Yang Opens International Exhibition

The sixth edition of the International Exhibition for Enterprises, SMEs, and Partnerships (PROMOTE) will last till February 19, 2017.

Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang, the personal representative of President Paul Biya of Cameroon on February 13, 2017 officially opened the International Exhibition for Enterprises, SMEs and Partnerships of Yaounde (PROMOTE) that brings together over 900 domestic and foreign enterprises, institutions and other structures to show-case their know-how and attract customers.

Besides speeches by various officials, the opening ceremony also featured the recognition of some State corporations, ministries and enterprises for their valuable participation and contribution to the success of the event in collaboration with the main organiser, Fondation Inter-progress. Among the State corporations honoured was the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation (SOPECAM) whose General Manager, Marie-Claire Nnana received a special participation certificate from the hands of the Prime Minister Philemon Yang.

The Cameroon government representative in the organisation, the Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana, announcing innovations disclosed that the periodicity for the holding of PROMOTE has been reduced from three to two years. In this light, he announced that the seventh edition of PROMOTE will take place in Yaounde in February 2019.

The head of the Fondation Interprogress, Pierre Zumbach, the organiser of PROMOTE disclosed that over 900 enterprises from across the world were taking part in the business rendez-vous, 14 ministries from Cameroon participating and 11 foreign countries had organised stands. He said it was an applied laboratory of research from the smallest to the biggest enterprises, a venue par excellence for sharing, exchanges, developing partnerships.

Guest speaker, the Italian Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro said 70 Italian enterprises were taking part in PROMOTE 2017 and announced that Italy’s Day in the business exhibition bonanza will begin today, February 14, 2017. Stating the importance of the participation of Italian enterprises, he said classical assistance to Africa was not enough. He said economic partnership was important as it favours exchanges, establishment of joint ventures by enterprises, as well as technology transfer. He said Cameroon had the potentials to do more, and added that Italy was interested in creating local companies based on joint ventures.

Other speakers during the event said PROMOTE was a framework of visibility to exhibit the potentials and know-how of the Central African Sub-region, offer the opportunity to development strategic partnerships and globalisation within the context of competition.
