America Mathematical Society : Cameroonian-born Ludovic Tangpi Awarded

The Assistant Mathematician Professor at Princeton University in the USA is the 2023 recipient of the Claytor-Gilmer Fellowship.

Born in Cameroon, Professor Ludovic Tangpi is making his fatherland proud in the world of mathematics in the United States of America (USA). Recently, he was awarded the third annual America Mathematical Society (AMS) Claytor-Gilmer Fellowship. Tangpi’s research interests include applied probability, stochastic control, and their applications in quantitative finance (including risk management, super hedging and large population games). The year-long fellowship was established in 2021 to further excellence in mathematics research and to help generate wider and sustained participation by Black mathematicians.
Information culled from the website of AMS reveals that Tangpi, an assistant professor in Princeton University’s Department of Operations Research and Financial Engineering (ORFE) earned his first degree in Mathematics from the University of Yaounde 1, received his M.S. from Stellenbosch University in South Africa (in collaboration with the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences), did his Ph.D. work jointly at Humboldt University in Berlin and the University of Konstanz, and was a post-doctoral fellow in mathematics at the University of Vienna.
His previous awards include a 2021 National Science Foundation CAREER grant, a  prestigious award for early-career faculty who have potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization, and the 2021 E. Lawrence Keyes, Jr./Emerson Electric Co. Faculty Advancement SEAS Junior Faculty award, which was established to recognize the most talente...
