Buea : Heavy Downpour Leaves Inhabitants In Tears

Two persons died while many were admitted in hospitals where they are responding to treatment.

It was a free for-all-cry in Buea Town on Saturday March 18, 2023, at 4 pm. This followed heavy downpour that pounded the town for two hours beginning at 2 pm and caused enormous damage both human and material. By 5 pm press time on that Saturday, the tempest rain had claimed two lives, five admitted at the Buea Regional Hospital, three at Buea Town Integrated Health Centre and an undisclosed numbers at Mount Mary Hospital Buea. Dr. Shitu Ismail of Buea Town Integrated Health Centre indicated that he received four victims of the floods. “One came very weak, another was semi-conscious and the third had wounds and was in severe pains. But they are all improving. The fourth who had rupture arteries and was referred to the Buea Regional Hospital after the bleeding was stopped,” he explained. 
Ndaka Sidonie, inhabitant of Buea Town who witnessed the tragedy, explained that pure black runoff swept four persons from Wonalyonga and they were only rescued miles away at Babuti quarter. In other neigbourhoods in Buea town, many persons were swept away by the runoff and they are still unaccounted for. At the end of Saturday, a search drive was launched for those swept away by the overspill. Several taxis at Buea Town were swept off the road to the gutters. 
The torrential rain destroyed countless houses with huge property running into hundreds of millions as many were rendered homeless. Most business stores at the Buea Town Market were emptied of their contents. It was a lamentable sight to see the inhabitants of Buea Town in chaos and grief.
