Presidential Reconstruction Plan : Projects Evaluated In South West

The President of the Steering Committee for the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development of the North West and South Regions (PPRD-NW/SW), Balungeli Confiance Ebune, who doubles as Director of Cabinet at the Star Building at the behest of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, embarked on a two-day evaluation visit to the South West Region. His visit that started on Tuesday, March 21 to 22, 2023 in Buea, assessed the completion rate of projects under the Presidential Plan which has the United Nations Development Plan (UNDP) as implementing partner. 
The National Supervisor of the Recovery Programme under the PPRD, Francis Ahmed revealed that between 2021 to December 2022, a total of 94 projects were earmarked for development. Amongst these, some 21 social cohesion projects were realized in three main sectors including empowerment of women and youth centers, sports and culture, and civil documentation. 
Within this category, the President of the Steering Committee visited the Fako Empowerment Platform (FEP), whose vision is to create a workspace that supports skill development and practical hands on training of youths and IDPs. The Plan further rehabilitated 45 infrastructure within the region amongst them 21 schools, 13 health centers, and 12 water points. 
During the Director of Cabinet’s visit to St Joseph’s College Sasse, the Principal, Fr Isaac Anuchem explained that “the school benefited three projects including the reconstruction of the St Martins Dormitory that was set ablaze in 2021, the construction of a 1,100m fence round the school, and a borehole.” These projects, he further explained, have helped stabilize security concerns that plagued the school, and solved the water crisis that afflicted students especially during the dry season.
