The club from Loum maintains the lead with 63 points and needs just three more points to win the championship title.
UMS of Loum edged closer to winning their maiden championship title by beating Bamboutos of Mbouda 2-1 on the 31st day of play over the weekend. The victory does not only enable the club from Loum to conserve the top seat on the points count but also puts them three points away from taking an unassailable lead synonymous to winning the championship title even before the last day of play. UMS with 63 points is seven points away from their closest challenger, Coton Sports of Garoua in the second position with 56 points and needs barely three more points to claim the championship title. However the suspense is not over yet but the contention for the championship title now boils down to the top duo as third placed, Yong Sports can no longer vie for the top seat. However the contention for African spots remains open with Yong Sports and Union of Douala still in the fray.
While the top quartet jostle for places in the African champions League and African confederations cup, those in the middle of the classification table are contented with maintaining their stay in the elite championship. This is the case for teams like Aigle, New Stars, newly promoted Racing of Bafoussam, Astres, Eding, Dragon and Bamboutos of Mbouda. However, Lion Blesse, Apejes and Panthere are on slippery ground and can easily glide down to the relegation zone. While the fore mentioned teams fight for survival in the first division, the mythical team from Nkoldongo-Yaounde who narrowly escaped relegation last season, will be struggling to hop out of the danger zone again this year.
They are the first team below the relegation line accompanied by Botafogo and Cosmos of Mbam in that order. While Canon and Botafogo still have hopes of escaping relegation, the die is already cast for Cosmos which has established a record of the worst performance so far in the elite championship. After acceding to the League One championship with flying colours, Cosmos disappointed many obtaining only 18 points after 31 days of play.
