Passion Week : Christians Brace Up For Easter Sunday

The weekend will be observed in most churches to remember Jesus Christ rising from death.
Ahead of Easter Sunday, Christians nationwide are currently observing the last days of the Holy Week which is characterised by prayers, abstinence and fasting. It is the end of the lent period and commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead on Sunday April 9, known as Easter Sunday. The day, Christians believe that Jesus Christ resurrected three days after his death by crucifixion on the cross.
From the Etoug-Ebe Baptist Church, through the Saint Joseph Anglophone Parish at Mvog-Ada to the Saint Peter and Paul Anglophone Parish Simbock and St Joseph Eucharistic Centre of Ntem-Assi 2 in the Omnisports neighbourhood, all in Yaounde, Christians in solemnity are devoted to the passion of Jesus Christ through special prayer programmes, (station of the cross) confession and baptism to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of mankind. At the Etoug-Ebe Baptist Church in Yaounde, Pastor Hilarious Tanjong says the ongoing Holy Week is marked by biblical teachings on the theme; “The Passion of Christ, The Passion of the Church.” A Lord Supper Service will take place at Etoug-Ebe Baptist Church today. This will be followed by a Good Friday Service and special services on Easter Sunday. Pastor Tanjong says Easter Sunday will begin at 5:00 a.m. with a sunrise service as Christians will sing and march around the Etoug-Ebe neighbourhood in recognition of the resurrected Christ.
At the St Joseph Eucharistic Centre of Ntem-Assi 2 in the Omnisports neighbourhood in Yaounde, the church administrator Father Lucas Tassi Ntang says the church is preparing to celebrate the “Pascal Triduum” namely the Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday in various ways according to the word of God.
