MTN Elite One : Remarkable Improvement

The Play-offs of the 2022-2023 MTN Elite One Championship which ended on May 21, 2023 in Douala wrapping up the season, gave glaring signs that there is hope for a better future for Cameroon football. Champions Coton Sport back from several international meetings within the framework of the CAF Champions League indicated that they have the experience required to conquer; being proud holders of 18 local league titles. But it was after they got stiff competition right from the regular season which began on October 15, 2022 to the play-offs in Douala which was seemingly successful. Changing the format to three playing days and the introduction of pre and post-match press conferences only meant that the desire to move up to standards is burning.
A season that did not only improve in competitiveness but a platform for some teams to create surprises. Gazelle that was just fresh from the Elite Two championship succeeded to qualify for the play-offs. Though they did not win any match in this stage of the competition, they remain a squad to reckon with. If Gazelle of Garoua shined as a team, others especially those of the Centre Region will have to go to the drawing boards following their relegation to the second division. In the Centre Region, Eding Sport of Lekie, Renaissance of Ngoumou, Dragon of Yaounde and YAFOOT will no longer mingle with the big wigs in Elite One but will have to battle in the MTN Elite Two. Avion Academy of Douala is equally wearing the same shoes.
