Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has been re-elected. He defeated his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu after scoring 52% as against 48% in a hotly-contested Presidential election. His re-election during a runoff on Sunday, May 28, 2023 confirms the willingness of the Turkish people to work with him hand-in-glove. Coming on the heels a devastating earthquake that left over 50,000 people dead, one would have thought that the Turkish people would go in for a change. But far from this, they have opted for continuity by throwing their weight behind the charismatic leader whose past results are palpable.
Though only 4% votes separate him from his major challenger, a-five-year red carpet mandate has been unfolded for him to implement his juicy campaign promises. The mission might seem difficult, but with the aid of the entire nation, the veteran politician can make Turkey a better place than it is now.
