2023 World Taekwondo Championships : Cameroonian Athletes Return Home

Cameroonian flagbearers at the 26th edition of the World Taekwondo Championship in Baku, Azerbaijan, were presented to the public by officials of the Cameroon Taekwondo Federation (FECATAE) on Saturday June 10, 2023 in Yaounde. Four athletes (two men and two women) represented Cameroon in the competition. For the women’s category they are Bidzono Francine -53kg and Egagne Marie Madelene -57kg. For the men’s category they are Mekontchou Wilfred -68kg and Mbaïguinan Kalvin -80kg. The 26th edition of the World Taekwondo Championships ran from May 29 to June 4, 2023. 
Speaking at the occasion, the coach of the national Taekwondo team, Nyock Nyock Pierre, said even though Cameroonian athletes did not win any medal they put up an honourable performance in the competition. “The level was high. It is a long time that we have not participated in such a high-level competition. The athletes acquired good experiences and the technical bench as well. This enabled us to win points that will improve our position on the world ranking,” he said.
