Dr Laura Matabong Egbe Besong : CEMAC Livestock Official Goes Home

The Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Cattle, Meat and Fish Resources, CEBEVIRHA was acknowledged posthumously on behalf of the Head State with the Medal of the Knight the National Order of Valour. This was during her internment in Yaound
Dr Laura Matabong Egbe Besong, a Veterinary Doctor who graduated from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1997, was laid to rest in the Petit Marche, Odza, Yaounde family residence on Saturday, June 17, 2023. Conspicuously present at the ceremony was the representative of the Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya. Alamine Ousmane Mey, the Minister for Economy, Planning and Regional Development, decorated the glittering milk-white casket bearing the remains of Dr Laura Besong with the Medal of the Knight of the National Order of Valour, posthumously. On behalf of the Head of State for her selfless services to the State, and the Central African Sub-region.
Prior to her death in South Africa on April 11, 2023 at the age of 54 years, Br Laura Besong was the Executive Secretary of the Ndjamena, Chad-based Economic Commission for Cattle, Meat and Fish Resources, CEBEVIRHA in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community, CEMAC zone. A position she was appointed to by CEMAC leaders during their summit meeting in Yaounde on March 17, 2023. Dr Laura was also Technical Adviser No. 1 in the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries. Thus, the presence of Dr Taiga, the Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, and Mrs. Ntsama Etoundi Malaika, the CEMAC Representative to Cameroon. As well as many other international and national dignitaries.
In an emotion-laden voice, Mr. Manu Jaji, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, read Dr Besong’s biography, paying glowing tribute to her character and dedicated service.
