Improving Health Facilities : Minister Presents Strides

Public Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie has presented to legislators, measures to adequately equip hospitals located along highways with high accident rates. This was during a question and answer plenary at the National Assembly chaired by the Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Hilarion Etong in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, François Bolvine Wakata. The Minister was responding to a question from Hon. Rolande Ngo Issi who wanted to know the measures taken to safe lives by hospitals along stretch of roads prone to accidents. 
In his response, Manaouda Malachie said there has been a recent reinforcement of human resources (medical doctors, especially sergeants) and up-to-date medical apparatus in these hospitals, notably, the Mbankomo and the Edea District Hospitals found along the National Road No 3. He revealed that the Regional Hospital Annex in Edea recently acquired an ultra-modern scanner for medical emergencies and all health facilities along that national road (Mbankomo-Pouma-Edea-Douala) are functional 24 hours a day. He added that there is also improved collaboration between road safety agents, forces of law and order and medical doctors to ensure easy accessibility to accident sites and the treatment of patients. 
On the disequilibrium in the number of health centres in rural areas, vis-à-vis urban centres, Minister Manaouda said measures are being taken to bridge the gap and rural hospitals in place respond to community needs.
