Corruption In Football : Twenty-Four Referees Suspended

They were sanctioned by the refereeing commission on June 30, 2023 for their implication in sports betting games and match-fixing in football, futsal and beach soccer.

The Cameroon Football Federation’s Central Commission of Refereeing is resolute in its fight against corruption in games and competitions organised by the federation. The 24 referees and assistant referees suspended in a communique dated June 30, 2023 comes on the heels of several other communique’s sanctioning referees this season.
The June 30, 2023 communique does not only suspend football referees but as well those of futsal and beach soccer. The commission says the referees and assistant referees were suspended from all activities related to refereeing across the country for direct and/or indirect involvement in sports betting games and match-fixing. International referee, Blaise Ngwa is among the 24 suspended referees. He has been one of the pride of the country at the international scene when it comes to this profession and seeing his name on such list has put football lovers in consternation. Before him, international assistant referee, Elvis Noupoue was recently suspended for serious shortcomings in the refereeing of the 2023 Cup of Cameroon semi-finals game between Colombe and Fovu of Baham.
