Oku Culture : Over 50 Learners Drilled

They underwent a two-month holiday classes programme recently in Nkolbisson, Yaounde.


In a bid to promote the culture of the people of Oku, a Subdivision in Bui Division of the North West Region, a passionate son of the soil, Erick Dom, Teacher of National Languages and Cultures has organised a two-month holiday classes programme in Nkolbisson, Yaounde. The programme which held recently brought together 52 learners to drill them on the Oku language in particular and the rich cultural values of the people of Oku in general. The training targeted sons and daughters of Oku irrespective of age and equally non-Oku people who are willing to learn the language
The trainees were drilled on how to speak, read and write Oku language and how to execute the various moves and steps of the “Njang Dance”. After the successful holding of the programme, the organiser has high prospects for the future. “This was the first edition of the Oku language classes and other aspects of Oku culture and I intend to continue next year by organising the same classes in targeted areas as Biyem-Assi, Mendong, Nkolfoulou, Nkolbisson etc”.
