Anglo-Saxon System of Education : School Resumes For Examination Classes
In some of these institutions in Yaounde, students in examination classes have commenced learning already.
It is exactly 7:30 a.m. as the bell rings in the Amasia Bilingual High School campus at the Ekounou neighbourhood in Yaounde. The surroundings of the institution and classrooms are clean; walls are painted; an indication they are ready for a new academic year. While some do not seem enthusiastic at all, others are so happy with the early school resumption. Indeed, school has resumed in this educational establishment since August 21, 2023. They are not the only school that has started. Almost all the Anglo-Saxon schools, more precisely the examination classes, have decided to resume with school two weeks before the official resumption date which is slated for Monday, September 4, 2023. The students concerned with this programme are upper sixth and form five students from private schools. “In our class, we are all excited being in upper sixth because it is our last year in college and after that, we will be forever done with school uniforms”, explains Lisa Sama, student at the Franky High School. “For this reason, we have no problem starting with school two weeks in advance. We are instead very happy with this because, it will permit us to learn more and be very efficient during the examination period”, she adds.
In other school campuses, little or no noise is heard since only a few number of students have started with school. “The calm atmosphere in the school campus permits us to better explain our lectures to the students and it permits them in return to get us better,” says Albert Nde, Physics teacher at the Adventist High School in the Odza neighbourhood.
According to some teachers, not every student was ready for this new programme. “Even though a high number of students feel good about these classes, others don’t think the same way,” says Ahmadou, Vice Principal at the Amasia Bilingual High School. “During lectures, we can see some of them sleeping, others discussing and not minding what the teacher is trying to explain in front of the c...
