Preserving the Ozone Layer : Minister Hele Pierre Calls for Concerted Efforts

This was during the 2023 edition of the International Day on the Protection of the Ozone layer.
The 2023 Ozone Day is held under the theme “Montreal Protocol: fixing the ozone layer and reducing climate change”. The theme is aimed at celebrating the achievements of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone layer. This year’s theme highlights and reiterates the positive impact of the Montreal Protocol on ozone layer recovery and reducing climate change. Especially emphasizing the Kigali Amendment, which through the phase-down of hydro fluorocarbons (HFCs) and improved efficiency in the cooling sector, will provide additional climate mitigation benefits.
Against this backdrop, the Minister of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, Hele Pierre, was in Douala on September 19 to join the international community to celebrate the international day for the protection of the ozone layer. The minister reiterated that International treaties adopted to protect the ozone layer have made a remarkable and measurable difference in protecting people and the planet. He said it was important to protect the ozone layer so as to avoid the worst effects of climate change thus building a sustainable and resilient world.
