Health, Work Security : Upcoming Congress To Lay Down Rules

Statistics from the WHO revealed that thousands of workers lose their lives as a result of their professional activities. An estimated 1.9 million people die each year of professional causes with more than 360 million non-fatal work accidents.
In Cameroon, in 2020, the National Social Insurance Fund (CNPS) recorded 1992 cases of accidents and illnesses which cost CFA 2,590,830,169. These figures are still underestimated, given the under-reporting of risks both in Cameroon and beyond. In addition to this human suffering, the consequences of which all these accidents and illnesses are the result of risk factors that could have been avoided by strategies to achieve a "safe and healthy workplace", which has become one of the fundamental principles and rights at work. All these are some of the major issues that will characterize the fourth national congress of the Cameroonian Society of Health and Safety at Work (SCSST) slated for October 11-13 2023 in Douala. This was announced by members of the society during a press conference organized in Douala on September 20, to dish out the state of affairs on the field which need to be sorted out.
