Protection Of Child Rights: UNICEF Seeks Greater Commitment From Businesses

A business lunch with executives held in Yaounde on October 13, 2023 to incite more support.
“In the coming year, we expect more commitments from businesses because we are already working with some of them. We expect businesses to expand their range of partnership with us and to make concrete impacts in the lives of children. Our goal at the end is to make positive change in the lives of children in Cameroon,” Nadine Perrault, United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF Country Representative for Cameroon said. She spoke in Yaounde on Friday, October 13, 2023 after meeting business executives.
“We organized the meeting with business executives because the private sector has an important role to play in promoting children’s rights. UNICEF for many years has been working with the private sector – through direct partnerships and advocacy – in order to influence government and communities on children’s rights. But also to ensure that within these businesses, they adopt practices conducive for protecting children’s rights,” Perrault explained. “I was extremely happy that businesses responded to our invitation and spent time with us. It was the continuation of an initiative which started in June-July 2023 in Douala,” Nadine disclosed.
According to UNICEF, private sector companies in Cameroon represent an essential link in the promotion of human capital. UNICEF, as the agency of the United Nations system responsible for promoting children's rights, works to establish a coalition and strong partnerships with businesses on health, education and child protection.
