South Sudan : Juba Peace Agreement To Be Reviewed

The information was made public on Tuesday by the country’s presidential adviser on national security affairs, Tut Gatluak Manime, who added that the date has been kept secret for security reasons.


South Sudanese authorities on Tuesday October 17, 2023 announced the holding next week of a meeting to review the Juba peace agreement which Sudan had signed with a coalition of armed and non-armed groups operating under the banner of Sudan Revolutionary Front in 2020. The October 2020 Agreement for Peace, which was signed by Sudan’s transitional government and many of the country’s main warring faction is highly complex and covers a wide range of areas, including governance, security and transitional justice. Since the signing, the implementation of the agreement has been affected by military interventions and subsequent violent conflict, halting all political processes and dialogue until a ceasefire is reached by the parties currently engaged in the armed confrontation.
Speaking to reporters in the capital Juba, South Sudan’s presidential advisor on national security affairs, Tut Gatluak Manime said the leaders seek to review the Juba Peace Agreement in order to forge a common understanding of resolving the conflict.
