Nigeria : President Tinubu, Chancellor Olaf Talk Trade

This was during a two-day State visit to Abuja from October 20-30, 2023.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has rounded off a two-day State visit to Nigeria with a strong commitment by the two leaders to strength relations between the two countries. Within 48 hours (October 29-30), President Bola Tinubu and Chancellor Olaf Scholz scanned through salient issues that can help enhance the existing cooperation. From their three separate discussions at the State House, it emerged that Nigeria is ready to partner with Germany in terms of education, power, mineral resources, gas, migration and security.
Speaking during a joint press conference, President Bola Tinubu said, it is a great pleasure for Germany with the largest economy in Europe and Nigeria the largest economy in Africa to hold fruitful discussions. He said though Nigeria has been able to bring insecurity to its minimum, it needs the support of the German government to completely eradicate the phenomenon. “We’re fighting terrorism and that is improving. We still need very much support in that area. And for us to be able to sustain democracy, rule of law and freedom for our people, we need to fight for democracy. And democracy must win at all times for us to meet the expectation of an African dream.” President Tinubu expressed the preparedness of his government to take Nigeria’s development to the next level, especially as the issues that have been distracting his focus have most recently been resolved by the Supreme Court. On the issue of Sahel Region, the President added that diplomatic engagements are ongoing towards the management of coup in Guinea and Niger Republic.
