Yaounde III Council : Motorbike Riders Commit To Respect Law, Better Their Lot

They held a meeting in Yaounde on November 9, 2023 to announce details of the social and economic upliftment scheme.
In his address, Marius Tchoffo Kaffo, President of the Yaounde III Council Union of Commercial Motorbike Riders recalled that the Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji recently announced plans by government to clamp down on those causing disorder and insecurity in the commercial motorbike transport. It is in this vein that the Yaounde III Subdivisional Council Union of Commercial Motorbike Riders has recently swung into action, embarking on a number of projects and activities. Thanks to the support of Mayor Owona Lucas.

“Identifying commercial motorbike riders, helping them to come out of informal activities, assisting them to acquire riders’ licences, council badges, motorbike registration numbers…. was done with the assistance of Yaounde III Subdivisional Council. The Council created a group to oversee all these and to follow up the instructions of the Council,” said Guy Gonzag Ebode, the Third Deputy Mayor of Yaounde III Subdivisional Council.
Make-up Of Motorbike Riders’ Union
The union Council Motorbike Executive comprises representatives and leaders of commercial motorbike associations and trade unions in various neighbourhoods in the council area. Marius Tchoffo said because of the situation decried by Minister Atanga Nji, Mayor Owona Lucas offered bike riders identification vests, which they regularly put on. Each rider is to make a daily reimbursement payment schedule of 100 FCFA until the total amount per vest of 6,000 FCFA is paid off.
Assistance For Motorbike Riders
Yaounde III Council has signed agreement with the authorities to facilitate the acquisition of Riders’ Licence A, with a licence costing 30,000 FCFA each. Other deals are for the training of commercial motorbike riders in various income-generation activities such as agriculture, livest...
