2026 World Cup Qualifiers : Which Lions For A Start?

The 24 players called by the coach are fine-tuning their skills at the in Douala ahead of today’s showdown.

 

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will begin their 2026 World Cup qualifiers today Friday November 17, 2023. For a start the Lions take on Mauritius in the first game at the Japoma Stadium in Douala today November 17, 2023 before travelling to Benghazi to take on Libya four days later. Cameroon needs to win these two matches to get off to a good start in the race to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. In this light, Coach Rigobert Song selected a 24-man squad to represent the country in the first two playing days of the qualifiers.
The 24 players called by the coach began training at the Bepanda Annex A Stadium on Monday November 13, 2023. Frank Zambo Anguissa, Karl Toko Ekambi were the last to arrive in the group. They joined the group on Tuesday November 14, 2023. Leonel Ateba of Dynamo FC of Douala, Eric Moursou of Coton Sport of Garoua and Frank Atsama, central defender of Bamboutos of Mbouda were called up by Coach Rigobert Song to make up for the absence of team captain, Vincent Aboubakar, midfielder Olivier Kemen and Harold Mokoudi who are nursing injuries. After intensive training, the players are upbeat and set for the challenge. For their part, the Mauritians also arrived in Douala early this week where they continued with their preparations. The Lions had their last training session yesterday November 16, 2023 in Douala. The match is slated at 8:00 p.m. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, chaired a preparatory meeting in Douala yesterday ahead of today’s match.
