Chantal Biya Research Centre : HIV Vaccine Research, Prevention Strategies To Intensify

Members of the Board of Directors of the “Chantal Biya” International Reference Centre (CBIRC) for Research on Prevention and Management of HIV/AIDS met yesterday December 19, 2023 at the institution’s 11th session to review the 2023 performance while projecting 2024 projects. In the absence of the Board Chair, the representative of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ihong III, presided at the session.  
For over three hours, members of the board examined and validated the 2024 budget of the “Chantal Biya” Research Centre. Ihong III explained that the budget of next year will be same like that of the current year. The money will be used to intensify research on an HIV vaccine and other related infectious diseases. Speaking to the press, the General Manager of CBIRC, Professor Alexis Ndjolo, noted that in 2024, the institution will still align to its projects for 2023 with certain innovations such as ambition to have a bigger office structure to improve the working space of the institution in its scientific domains, as well as enable management to mobilise external funding.
Talking about the activities of the structure this year, the Deputy General Manager of the research centre, Dr Godwin Nchinda said they centred on four sub programmes among which the prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, the treatment and management of infectious diseases, the study of the impact of HIV on other health programmes in the country as well as governance and institutional support to the structure. With the resources available to the structure, Dr Nchinda said the management executed almost 70 per cent of what was proposed as activities for the year.
