CAN 2023 : CAF Increases Prize Money

The African football governing body has noted a 40 per cent upsurge in the earnings for the winner of the 34th edition of the competition.

The Confederation of African football (CAF) has announced its decision to increase the prize money for the winner of the upcoming AFRICA Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire to $ 7, 000, 000 billion (FCFA 4.2 billion). In a report published on Friday January 4, 2024, CAF noted a 40 per cent increase in the prize money for the winner of the 34th edition of the AFCON. The initiative comes ahead of the kick off of the tournament in Côte d'Ivoire on January 13, 2024. The increase is proof of CAF's commitment to enhance the competition's significance. 
The new prize money for the winner exceeds that of the defending champions, Senegal in the previous edition in Cameroon where they received $4.5 million (FCFA 27 billion). The Runner-up of the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d'Ivoire 2023 will now get USD 4 000 000 (FCFA 2.4 billion). Each of the two semi-finalists, will receive USD 2 500 000 (FCFA 1.5 billion) and each of the four Quarter-finalists, USD 1 300 000 (FCFA 789 million).
