Guinea-Senegal : Fortunes Shared

As Senegal sealed their position as Group C leaders following their 2-0 victory yesterday in Yamoussoukro, Guinea is also sure of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.
The Teranga Lions of Senegal are doing well as concerns their title defense. They made it three on three following the 2-0 victory against Guinea yesterday, January 23, 2024 at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro. With this result, the Teranga Lions consolidate their position as group C leaders with nine points but greatly punished the Guineans who wished they had won or better still end with a draw as the Gambia-Cameroon game that was ongoing simultaneously, produced fireworks. Nonetheless, Guinea with four points and a goal difference of -1 is still sure of progressing to the next round as one of the best-third placed teams looking at the standings of the other groups.
It was not an easy victory for the Senegalese. As expected, the West African derby produced fire works with tensions hitting high gear and even the players going confrontational. The Guineans gave the Senegalese a run for their money with a first half that ended goalless. Coach Kaba Diawara, conscious of the fact that they were playing against the defending champions, brought in the country’s star striker, Serhou Guirassy as starter.
