Social Protection : MoU To Strengthen System Signed

The agreement was undertaken between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the World Food Programme on Friday March 22, 2024 in Yaounde.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and the World Food Programme (WFP), are expanding the social protection system to fight social exclusion, protect socially vulnerable people while promoting national solidarity. This is through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Minister of Social Affairs (MINAS), Pauline Irène Nguene and the Representative and Country Director of the World Food Programme in Cameroon (WFP), Wanja Kaaria on Friday 22 March 2024. Within the MoU cooperation, both structures will focus on a joint implementation action plan with multi-faceted support in the ongoing process of setting up Unified Social Register of Cameroon, abbreviated RESUC.
The Minister of Social Affairs questioned: “How can we ensure the social protection of the populations without having a capacity for social monitoring and prevention? How can we provide assistance mechanisms for the poorest and most vulnerable people without reliable and permanent information enabling us to locate and respond quickly and effectively to the existential needs of socially vulnerable households and individuals? How can we transform our current social protection system into one that is adaptive and sensitive to shocks?” According to Pauline Irène Nguene, answers to these essential questions, form the basis of the National Social Protection Policy that the government has been working for some years now in setting up RESUC. RESUC, she explained, is a decision-making tool that will enable the government and its partners to better coordinate, plan, programme, finance, monitor and evaluate all social protection initiatives in the country.
