Migration : Women’s Right Under Scrutiny

The African Centre for International, Diplomatic, Economic and Strategic Studies abbreviated CEIDES in the French Language has discussed on the recurrent migration of women and the international laws binding their protection. This was during a gathering chaired by the Spanish Ambassador to Cameroon, Ignacio Garcia Lumbreras. 
The moderator of the event, Christian Pout, who is a Senior Diplomat and President of think tank CEIDES, said the event was organised in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Cameroon because they need to underline their commitment and importance they accord in protecting the rights of women.  
One of the speakers, Morelle Manuela Sa'a Ngouana talked on why people migrate. Due to political, social, natural and economic reasons, people have been forced to change their habitual place of residence. She noted that women leave their families and homes to take terrible risks. They face exploitation and abuse, but they live in the hope that they will be able to improve their lives and those of their children. 
Another speaker, who is a social activist and researcher, Prudence Noutcha, schooled the audience on the impact of climate change, migration, immigration and women security. According to her, by 2050 more than 25 million to one billion people will migrate due to climate change. Taking into consideration gender norms and women’s security, Prudence Noutcha said “There is need to integrate complementary policy agenda to resolve the problems specifically linked to women”.
