Academic Dissertation : Examining Post-Bureaucratic Practices

This was the outcome of a doctoral thesis defence recently held at the University of Douala.

 

A thesis entitled "Managerial practices and performance of post-bureaucratic organisations; Case of the Ministry of Higher Education and State Universities in Cameroon", was recently presented to a jury chaired by Prof. Claude Bekolo at the University of Douala by Theresia Enanga Mbua Ndoko. The general objective of the research was to find out how post-bureaucratic management practices affect organisational performance in MINESUP and State Universities in Cameroon. It should be recalled that in a post-bureaucratic organisation, decisions are not based on rank or political competence, but rather on the talent, skills and performance of the individual, so that governance functions as a meritocracy.
In the study, the researcher examined chain of command, intra-organizational relationship, subordinate involvement in decision making and information dissemination as post-bureaucratic management practices that affect organisational performance in MINESUP and State Universities. Presenting the results of the research, Theresia Enanga Mbua Ndoko revealed that the null hypothesis was rejected for all four hypotheses and the conclusion was that there is significant statistical evidence to suggest that there is a relationship between chain of command, intra-organisational relationship, subordinate involvement in decision making, information dissemination and performance in a post-bureaucratic organisation.in the management practice in the Ministry of Higher Education and State Universities.
