2024 GCE Examinations : Hitch-Free Kick Off Nationwide

Serenity reigns in most accommodation centres in Yaounde as aspirants’ sit for the exams.

On Tuesday May 28, 2024, over 196,000 candidates nationwide began writing the 2024 Ordinary and Advanced Levels examinations organised by the General Certificate of Examination (GCE) Board in 443 accommodation centres. Statistics from the GCE Board indicate that the highest number of candidates are from the Littoral and Centre Regions, followed by the South West Region. Globally, the 2024 session witnessed an increase of over 14,000 candidates. Reports from accommodation centres that Cameroon Tribune visited in Yaounde during the early hours of yesterday May 28, shows that the written session is moving on hitch-free. In all the accommodation centres, the GCE exams began with Economics paper one for the Ordinary and Advanced Levels. This session lasted for one-hour: 30 minutes. Writing continued later during the day from 1:00 p.m. with paper two of the same subject. The written part of the examinations will last two weeks.  
Government Bilingual High School Etoug-Ebe, Yaounde is one of the GCE accommodation centres in Yaounde, hosting 12 different sub-centres. According to the chief of the GCE examination secretariat on the spot, Florence Forchu, the morning session of examinations yesterday started on time. She explained that by 7: 00 a.m, candidates were already in the school premises, went through the necessary security controls and were settled in their various examination halls before 8:00 a.m, to kick start the first session of the examination. At the Etoug-Ebe Bilingual High School, some 2,869 candidates are sitting-in for the exams. 40 examination halls have been made available to accommodate candidates. Florence Forchu explained that there are 30 candidates per examination hall, one per desk. Each hall has one invigilator. Besides, there are eight superintendents, four secretariats and two attendants from the GCE Board to ensure that the session goes on smoothly.
