African Athletics Championship : Delegations Begin Arriving In Douala

Over 800 athletes from 54 countries are expected to take part in the competition that kicks off on June 21, 2024.

 

The 23rd edition of the African Athletics Championship will kick off on June 21, 2024 in Douala, Cameroon. Ahead of the competition, athletes from other countries have begun arriving in the economic capital to continue with their preparations and get used to the environment. Over 800 athletes from 54 countries are expected to take part in the competition. Three days to the start of the competition, preparations have reached high gear.   
After validation of the track and areas at the Japoma Sports complex in Douala, the technical staff led by Technical Director Aziz Daouda of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), accompanied by Hervé Fuller, Director of Competitions at the Cameroon Athletics Federation, are installing the equipment on the competition site. On Sunday June 16, 2024, the high jump and pole vault podiums, as well as the pole vault cage, were erected with the help of around thirty volunteers dedicated to the aforementioned committee. As for the string of arrivals of foreign delegations, the first group of the Zambian Athletics Team arrived at the Douala International Airport on Sunday June 16, 2024.
