2024 Olympic Games : Nation Bids Farwell To Athletes

The ceremony to hand over the national flag to the delegation that will represent Cameroon in the Olympic Games took place in Yaounde yesterday, July 9, 2024.


It was an exceptional day at the National Olympic and Sports Committee in Yaounde yesterday July 9, 2024. The event was the ceremony to hand over the national flag to the Cameroon Olympic Team that will take part in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, France. Cameroon will be represented in the Olympic Games by six athletes (two men and four women) in four disciplines; athletics, judo, table tennis and swimming. 
Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi on behalf of the President of the Republic and the national sports movement congratulated the athletes for qualifying for the Olympic Games. He extended words of encouragements to teams and athletes who worked hard during qualifying tournaments but their performances did not meet the minimum performance for the Olympic Games, notably the men’s basketball team that was eliminated in the semi-finals of Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Latvia and the Men’s Beach Volley team that was eliminated in same stage of the competition in Paris. He said the government has taken measures to ensure that the athletes participate in the competition in good condition. He called on the athletes to show proof of abnegation, fidelity, courage, dignity, sportively and fair play and also to give their best in order to merit the high esteem of the country.
