World Deaf Athletics Championships : Competition Kicks Off

Some eight athletes are representing the country in the event that began yesterday July 18, 2024 in Taipei, China.

The fifth edition of the World Deaf Athletics Championship kicked off in Taipei, the People’s Republic of China, yesterday July 18, 2024. Cameroon is represented in the competition by eight athletes. The Cameroonian delegation in China is made up of 16 persons, eight athletes (six men and two women) and eight officials. The Cameroonian athletes will compete in nine disciplines including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, shot put, javelin, discuss and hammer throws.  
After the first playing day yesterday, July 18, 2024, Mballa Ogata Michèle qualified for the final of the shot put event. She equally finished eighth in the world and qualified directly for the Deaflympics in Tokyo, 2025. 
Messe Bibiche was eliminated in the first round of the shot put final, but unfortunately did not qualify for the Deaflympics in this sports discipline.  Tsamjeu Parfait qualified for the men's 400m semi-finals which will take place today July 19, 2024. Another athlete, Mohamed Peka, although eliminated in the first heat of the men's 100m achieved the minimum standards required for the Deaflympics. Three athletes from Team Cameroon will be competing today July 19, 2024. They are Koung Mpele Emmanuel and Minyem Nang André Nazaire in the men's discus throw and Tsamjeu Parfait for the men's 400m semi-finals. The...
