British High Commission To Cameroon : “Create A World Free From Poverty On A Liveable Planet”

Following the landslide victory of the Labour Party in Great Britain on July 4, 2024, we contacted the British High Commission to Cameroon to get more inside information to the changes at N° 10. Here are the views of the Deputy High Commissioner to Camero

“The new government has said that the UK’s development work must be closely aligned with its foreign policy aims, co-ordinated to tackle global poverty, instability, and the climate and nature crisis. Its mission statement will be ‘to create a world free from poverty on a liveable planet’ as a signal of our commitment to greater multilateral action, and our intention to lead on this agenda. The Government is committed to resetting the relationship with the European Union, to strengthen ties, reinforce our security and tackle barriers to trade. The PM has made clear our enduring and unwavering commitment to the NATO alliance, to Ukraine and to the collective security of our country, our continent, and our allies. 
The new government has confirmed that long-term peace and security in the Middle East will be an immediate focus and will continue to push for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, the upholding of international law, and a rapid increase of aid into Gaza.  The new government has been clear that it will strive to be a leading nation in Europe, with an improved and ambitious relationship with our European partners. It has said that it will reset the relationship and seek to deepen ties with our European friends, neighbors and allies.
