Basic Education : 722 Illegal Schools Closed

According to the ministerial decision, the said schools will only be authorised to resume their activities after regularization of their administrative situation.
Considering the serious shortcomings noted during various missions to combat clandestine schools during the 2023-2024 academic year by the Directorate of Monitoring Basic Private Education, the Minister of Basic Education, Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa on July 23, 2024 signed decision number 315 /51/14/D/MINEDUB/SG/DSEPB/SDRA closing down some 722 clandestine establishments of Basic Private Education in the Regions of Adamawa, Centre, East, Littoral, West and South. Administrative authorities and the Regional Delegates of Basic Education have been called upon effectively apply the decision.
According to the decision, most of the schools do not meet up with all the conditions necessary to establish and operate a private school within the basic education sector. The 722 schools should be closed down because they do not have documents which authorises them to establish and operate (open). There are those who have the decision to establish a school, but not that which authorises them to go operational. Some schools were closed for repeated failure to obtain the necessary authorisation for the creation and operation of the site.
More specifically, the Groupe Scolaire Bilingue “Les Seranges” located at the Manguier neighbourhood in the Yaounde I Subdivision was shut down because it does not have an authorisation to establish, coupled with the fact that the school premises is very dirty and the road to the school is not too accessible. Also, the "Printemps", Primary School located at the Carriere neighbourhood in Yaounde lacked the accreditation to extend the Bilingual Nursery section. GSB “Refuge” Carriere, in Yaounde II Subdivision also failed to show the ministerial order extending to the French-speaking section. Others such as GSB “Grace Song” at Mbanjock in the Upper Sanaga Division of the Centre Region was ordered to close down for failing to issue an order extending to the Englis...
