Nurturing Next Tech Generation : Teenagers Gain Skills In Holiday Camp

The 2024 Nervtek Holiday tech camp concluded in Buea on August 17, 2024 after one month of training. Nervtek Holiday Camp is a platform that empowers the next generation of tech savvy with diverse skills. The project provided comprehensive learning experiences that combine technical knowledge, practical skills and a focus on social impact. The camp’s curriculum covered coding, robotics, wed development, drone technology, 3D modelling and painting, and emerging technologies. 
The 70 participants between the ages of seven and 17 at the Buea Mountain Hotel on the final day presented several prototypes that they developed. In level one, the tech beginners presented archetypes on facial recognition, solar city, blind aid, line following robot etc. At level two, they created cyber security awareness website, password generator and spam link checker. Those at level three worked on plant welfare monitoring system, and animal tracking device for wildlife. Those at level four got a weather station. Leader of the group, Fiemena Courage, said the invention provides parameters like temperature, humidity and wind speed. This will help meteorologist in predicating natural disasters. It will also help constructors to know the right time to build and what infrastructure to put up and where. 
Nzometiah Nervis Tetsop, CEO of Nervtek, said the world is increasingly becoming digitalized and it is very important for parents to invest in their children. He insisted that the capacity to train in all tech fields are available in the country. “What we need is the right environment and tools to work. We will do a lot more,” he said.
