South West : Stakeholders Commit For Effective School Resumption

Secondary education authorities aim to achieve 100 per cent back to school in the South West Region come September 9, 2024.
Education stakeholders in the South West Region and those of the Secondary education sector in particular are working towards the re-opening of all schools and a hitch-free 2024/2025 academic year. They expressed their commitment on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, during the first Secondary education sector conference which also served as an occasion to launch the new school year at St. Mary’s International College, Mudeka, Tiko sub-Division, Fako Division of the South West Region.
South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, presided at the conference which had as theme; “The Impact of New Pedagogic Tools on the Digitalization Process at the Ministry of Secondary Education.” The Governor called on all to be more committed in combating absenteeism at all levels while reminding teachers in non-functional schools to adhere to the Minister’s instructions regarding redeployment to functional institutions. He acknowledged the remarkable increase in the number of students and equally congratulated education stakeholders for putting in their best for a successful 2023/2024 school year. “There has been a rise in drug consumption and violence in the school milieu, be vigilant as teachers and students should make use of Guidance Counselors. Teachers and students must adhere to the Minister’s ‘Clean school’ policy’ as cholera and monkey pox continue to resurface,” the Governor said. The Chief Executive of the region urged teachers to redouble efforts so as to achieve better results in the upcoming academic year. He further said teachers who have abandoned their duty posts should be reported to hierarchy.
