For their first-ever participation in the competition, the Lionesses finished Group A as one of the best third-placed sides after their 2-0 win over Australia in Bogota over the weekend.
The U20 women’s team of Cameroon has advanced to the Round of 16 in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup ongoing in Colombia. The team is making history as this is its first-ever participation in the competition. The Lionesses secured their place in the next round after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Australia in their final Group A match over the weekend. This victory resulted to Cameroon ending the group level with Mexico on points, goal difference and goals scored but finishing third by virtue of an inferior disciplinary record under FIFA's Team Conduct Score (TCS) model. The four points they garnered though were enough to secure their progression to the knockouts as one of the best third-placed sides.
Despite a promising start from the Australians, Cameroon’s dominance was rewarded just before halftime when Achta Toko Njoya curled a shot into the far corner to give her team a narrow lead. A second goal came from captain Naomi Eto in the second half to seal the win for Cameroon. Achta Toko Njoya's standout performance in the match against Australia earned her the Player of the Match award.
