Cameroon-Kenya : Lions Begin Camping Today

Cameroon begins camping ahead of double confrontation against Kenya today October 7, 2024 at the Hilton hotel in Yaounde. The first leg is billed for October 11 in Yaounde and the second is slated for Kampala, Uganda on October 14. These encounters count for the third and fourth match playing days of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ahead of the games, Head Coach Marc Brys announced his 24-man squad during a press conference at the headquarters of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) in Yaounde on October 5, 2024. The squad features a blend of experienced players and promising young talents. Notable inclusions in the team include newcomers James Ndjeungoue, Martin Atemengue, and Patrick Soko. The coach emphasised the importance of maintaining squad cohesion while also introducing young blood to inject new energy and ideas.
In the goalkeeping compartment, Coach Marc Brys has gone with his usual trio of Onana, Omossola and Ngapandouetnbu.  André Onana’s first choice position cannot be argued looking at his exploits. He was recently named Manchester United’s player of the month of September. The two Simon’s; Omossola and Ngapandouetnbu are still serving as backup. Coach Marc Brys was questioned on Fabrice Ondoa’s absence amidst his strong form. The Coach explained that Cameroon possesses a wealth of talented players, many of whom are competing at top clubs. This makes it challenging to select a final squad. He stated that he prioritizes players who fit the specific profile he desires for each position.
The defence compartment plays host to one of the new comers; James Ndjeungoue. The 21-year-old centre-back plays for MSK Zilina, a first division side in Slovakia. This park has also seen the comeback of Flavien Boyomo after his first ever call up for the double-header against Namibia counting of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers. As for Jean-Charles Castelletto’s non call up again, the coach said he had talked with him, admitted that he is getting more fit but however regretted the current difficult situation between the player and his club coach. 
The midfield equally has a new boy in the person of Martin Atemengue Ndzie. The 21-year-old who began his professional career in home-based Renaissance of Ngoumou currently plays for FC Ashdod in the Israeli Premiere league. He is the only new face in the compartment compared to the last call ups.
In the attack, Brys is making good use of his experience folks as well as injecting new energy. One of the newcomers, Patrick Soko, is a member of this set.
