University Games : New Format In Place

Henceforth, athletes will have to qualify for the competition which will hold after every two years.

The 25th edition of the University Games to be hosted by the University of Ebolowa in 2026 will see athletes participate through qualification. This is the outcome of a sensitization seminar that held in the University of Buea on November 7, 2024. It was organised by the National Federation of University Sports (FENASU). 
Chief David Biyo’o, National Technical Coordinator, explained that following instruction from Prof. Jacque Fame Ndongo, Minister of State, Minister of Higher Education, the format of the University Games has changed. All Universities and higher institutions of leaving in Cameroon have been mapped out in four zones with each called University Zonal Championship. Zone A is made of Universities and higher institutions in Adamawa, North and Far North Regions. Zone B harbors Centre, East and South Regions. Zone C is made of South West and Littoral Regions. And Zone D is North West and West Regions. 
In 2025, there shall be a University Zonal Championship in each of these zones. This will serve as qualifiers for the 2026 University Games in Ebolowa. The University Games has 12 sporting disciplines plus a socio-cultural displace, fan club. “At the end of the competition, the best institutions qualify in different disciplines per their zones will represent their zone at the National Final of University Games in Ebolowa,” he pointed out.
