The forum ended on Friday, Nov 15 with a clarion call for quality products to take advantage of the import substitution policy.
The just-ended 3rd edition of the Douala Economic Forum, organized by Impact Économique has been described as the best since inception in 2021. At the end of the five-day high-level economic jamboree that brought together administrative and local authorities, investors, project holders, SMEs, universities, and economic operators, the Chief of Project at Impact Économique, David Moukollo Bille disclosed that it was a success. “Our expectations were met; exchanges were fruitful, the presence and participation of administrative authorities were great, the high-level discussions on various topics were worthwhile, and goods and services exhibited registered passed mark,” he said.
Since the promotion of import-substitution policy is a strategic issue for the development of the country, the political will proclaimed by the SND30 is enough to be of great benefit to the country should the government and stakeholders comply with the perquisites of successful implementation. To David Moukollo Bille, some Made in Cameroon products need a little touch in quality and the population needs to be sensitised on consuming homemade so that the country should not depend mostly on imported goods. If involved in import substitution, he believes it will go a long way to reduce the country’s balance of payment deficit gap.
For five days, participants worked on the theme: “Transport logistics and the real estate industry as elements of the attractiveness of the City of Douala including the promotion of import substitution in the territories”.
