Dixiades 2024 : Centre Region Triumphs

The eighth edition of the biennial competition ended in Yaounde on Friday December 20, 2024.

Curtains have been drawn at the eighth edition of the Dixiades Games that rounded off in Yaounde on Friday, December 20, 2024 with the dominance of the Centre Region. Close to 2,000 athletes from ten regions of the country competed in ten sports disciplines notably athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, handball, judo, weightlifting, wrestling and volleyball. The event was presided over by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute. Also present at the occasion were members of government, the diplomatic corps, authorities of the Centre Region, traditional authourities, among other top dignitaries. Last Friday’s ceremony was equally an occasion to bid farewell to the different delegations and to hand over the Dixiades flag to the Littoral Region which will host the competition in 2026 in Douala. 
The first segment of the event centered on the handing over of prizes to athletes who distinguished themselves in the competition. The Littoral Region won the Award from the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education while the South Region won the award from the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education. The trophy for the best athlete in the competition went to Patrick Bassomben from the Littoral Region who won two gold medals in athletics. He won gold in the 100m and 200m races. The trophy for the best female athlete went to Dane Nassourou from the Littoral Region who won two gold medals in the 1, 500 (5’7”) and 800m (2’34”). The East Region went home with the trophy for Fair Play. The Centre Region emerged overall winners with a total of 79 medals; 42 gold, 25 silver and eight bronze.
