Cocoa : Historic Record Price !

2024 is indelible in the minds of cocoa farmers in Cameroon who experienced an unprecedented high price which peaked at FCFA 6,000 per kilogram.
Cameroon is one of the world’s leading cocoa producing countries. According to the National Cocoa and Coffee Board, over 500,000 Cameroonians are more or less dependent on cocoa production for their livelihoods. According to the National Institute of Statistics, cocoa beans and derivative exports generated total revenue of FCFA 512 billion in 2023, up by 10.4 per cent from FCFA 463.6 billion in 2022. This is thanks to the price surge that began during the 2023-2024 cocoa season. Despite this rise, during the 2024-2025 cocoa season, which officially started in August 2024, the prices remain lower than those seen in the 2023-2024 season when the price reached a record high of FCFA 6,000 per kilogram. At press time, the price per kilogram oscillated between FCFA 4,200 and FCFA 45,00. Though the price has dropped, it is still far higher than the FCFA 1,800 per kilogram in 2022.
