New Year : Church Services, Merrymaking Herald The Year

Fireworks display, special church services and merrymaking marked the start of the year 2025 in the capital city at midnight leading into January 1, 2025. Most churches, beer parlours, restaurants, major junctions in Yaounde began the New Year in a spectacular way. Through songs, the population danced their way into the New Year with the phrase: “Happy New Year” on almost every lip. Indeed, it was a crossover night of jubilation, but not without casualties as some accidents were recorded.
By 10:00 p.m. on December 31, 2024, the majority of the population in Yaounde began moving towards where they wanted to crossover into the New Year. Some people went to church premises. Others to restaurants, some to major junctions in the town and others to night clubs. There are those who planned a special gathering at home with family members and loved ones in prayers and merrymaking. As Cameroon Tribune reporters toured the streets of Yaounde, Christians in different denominations gathered at their various worship grounds for a special crossover night service. At the Glory of Christ Chapel in the Mvog-Ada neighbourhood, the congregation gathered for a special church service that started at 10:00 p.m. on December 31, 2024 and went into the early hours of January 1, 2025. The dress code of the special service was white. The Servant of God, Crescence Baboke, had a message for the congregation taken from the Book of Deuteronomy 31:6. At the Our Lady of Victories Cathedral in Yaounde, Christians had also gathered for a special crossover mass. The same scenario took place at the River of Life Christian Church in Yaounde, where the crossover service focused on the book of Proverb 3:3, with Pastor Rose Amah on the pulpit.
