Electoral Period : UN Official Encourages Democratic Principles

Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute yesterday held discussions with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry.

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Central Africa, Abdou Abarry, who is on a two-day working visit to Cameroon was yesterday March 13, 2025 received by the Prime Minister Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute.  The current political context of Cameroon which is the organisation of the upcoming Presidential election was at the centre of discussions at the Star Building. The Special Representative, accompanied by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Cameroon, Dr. Issa Sanogo, is thus in Cameroon to meet authorities ahead of the polls.  
Acknowledging that elections are a delicate time in a country, the UN official noted that they desire to see the elections organised under peaceful and stable conditions. 
"This is a particular context for Cameroon as the country is preparing for the Presidential election. As such, certain behaviors and declarations are to be avoided. The objective of the collaboration between the United Nations and Cameroon is to promote living together and peace," he told reporters shortly after the audience with the Prime Minister. Abdou Abarry added that elections are not an avenue to fan violence and discord, but rather an opportunity for people to renew their attachments to the values of peace and security.  He thus called on everyone to show engagement to democratic principles given that people come and go, but the country remains.
