Botswana : Striving To Shine!

The Botswana national football team is gearing up with great enthusiasm for their second-ever Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) appearance, set to take place in Morocco in 2025. This marks their return to the prestigious tournament after a 13-year pause since their debut in 2012, where they exited at the group stage. They left that competition with no point as they lost all their three group stage matches.  As underdogs, the Zebras’ primary objective will be to better their 2012 performance by at least crossing the group stage. 
Botswana’s qualification journey showcased resilience and determination, finishing second in Group C behind record champions Egypt and edging out Mauritania and Cabo Verde. Their stellar performance highlights how the gap in African football has significantly narrowed, reflecting the dramatic growth in the continent’s football standards; a trend seen in previous editions such as the Côte d'Ivoire AFCON.
Drawn in Group D alongside Senegal, Benin, and the Democratic Republic of Congo for the Moroccan expedition, the Zebras face tough opponents but remain optimistic.
