North West : Regional Assembly Adopts FCFA 14.6 Billion Budget

The budget will be used to carry out projects and activities in four key programmes in 2026.
The North West Regional Assembly will begin its second term of office in 2026 with an ambitious budget of FCFA 14.6 billion. The budget and priority actions and activities were adopted during the budgetary session of the House that took place from Monday, December 8 to December 10, 2025. The session marked the last for pioneer members of the North West Regional Assembly who effectively started work in December 2020. Talking to the press during the session, the President of the Executive Council of the North Regional Assembly, Professor Fru Angwafo III, said, “We are happy that the State has made available provisions that go beyond FCFA 14 billion. From our medium term budgetary framework, we were proposing a FCFA 11.6 billion budget for 2026.” Despite the provisions, he said, “The increase is far below the needs of the projects we have. So we still have to make sure that the projects are equitably distributed across the region.”
The budget will go to boost activities of four programmes. One of such, the President said, is the social programme that deals mainly with health and secondary education. “We will continue to improve access to care for the population by rehabilitating, constructing District Hospitals, and sending equipment, medications and medical supplies to all the 21 Health Districts and Regional and Regional Annex Hospitals.” The Regional Assembly will also support the needy, Internally Displaced Persons and the sick with special focus on women and youths.
The North West Regional Assembly will also in 2026 give priority to economic development. “We will finish our Regional Lodge which should be through in six months. We also want to start the External Customs Clearance House at Nkwen. We are currently building the Regional Market in Nkwen,” Professor Fru Angwafo III disclosed. Other economic projects include, “the North West Development and Investment Fund which has already started the digital entrepreneur project, we will strengthen these activities so that the youths will find employment and will grow the private sector,” he added. The Regional House will also continue with citizenship, sports, culture and youths programme.
