Commonwealth Day 2026: Commemorative Activities Kick-off

The flag hoisting ceremony was presided yesterday by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu.

Week-long activities to mark the 2026 edition of the Commonwealth Day, commemorated under the theme; “Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” have been launched. The flag hoisting ceremony of yesterday March 2, 2026 at the Ministry of External Relations, chaired by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Cooperation with the Commonwealth, Felix Mbayu, officially kicked started activities. The event took place in the presence of Lord Jonathan Marland, Chairman of the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, special guest, and High Commissioners of Commonwealth member countries accredited to Cameroon. In his preliminary statement, the Minister highlighted the importance of the theme and the need to strengthen partnerships and deepen solidarity for shared prosperity. Minister Felix Mbayu insists on the fact that prosperity cannot be achieved in isolation, especially given the current context of the world marked by geopolitical tensions, economic volatility, supply chain disruptions, climate emergencies, food insecurity, rising debt vulnerabilities and humanitarian crises that transcend borders. This explains why the Minister said, “The absolute necessity of working together has therefore never been clearer. That is why within the Commonwealth family, our diversity is not a constant-it is a strategic asset. Our shared traditions, cultures and network position us uniquely to foster trust, mobilise investments, build resilience and advocate collectively for the common good,” Felix Mbayu stated. Going by the words of the Minister, the Commonwealth Day, which has become a significant fixture in the diplomatic calendar of the country, is a veritable platform that cherishes equality of opportunity, valuable international cooperation and increased individual fulfilment.
