Driving Code: Commercial Motor Bike Riders Gain Skills

For the next three weeks, they will be trained on driving codes, road signs and civic behaviour.
It is on record that 80% of road accidents in Douala involve commercial motorbike riders. This has been blamed on failure to respect the driving code, road signs, and unsafe driving behaviours. In response, Moto Afrique, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, and CAMPOST, has embarked on a programme to train commercial motorbike riders. The training was launched in Douala on Thursday, 28 May. During the first session, over 200 commercial motorbike riders turned up. Registration for the free three-week training will continue until 18 June 2026. During the training session, Samuel Mvondo Mvondo, the promoter of Moto Afrique, explained that the organisation has taken it upon itself to train commercial motorbike riders in Cameroon, and that Douala is their first city. He said it is important for riders to receive basic training and obtain their documents so they can operate in line with the law. Speaking at the event, Sylyac Mvogo, the SDO for Wouri, noted that commercial motorbike riders go out every day in search of daily income for themselves and their families. He said it is therefore essential that they operate within the rules. He congratulated the riders for contributing to the development of the Wouri Division, stating that they have remained responsible and have not allowed themselves to be used for public disorder.
