In a major administrative move, the Cameroon Baptist Convention, CBC has announced the appointment of Dr. Humphrey Ekema Monono as the new Registrar of the Cameroon Baptist University Institute, CBUI. The official decision, signed on June 17, 2026, by the CBC Executive President and CBUI Board Chair, Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema, outlines that the high-profile appointment will take official effect on July 1, 2026.
Basis For Appointment
According to the official release (Decision N° CBC/EP/JET-LCM/094/2026), the appointment relies heavily on the recently adopted CBC Constitution and By-Laws of June 10, 2026. Alongside the legal ratification of the Cameroon Baptist University Charter by the CBC General Council.
Expected Roles
As Registrar, Dr. Monono will lead the academic and administrative records of the university institute. The directive specifies that he will assume all rights, privileges, and benefits associated with the office. Furthermore, he is mandated to execute his duties in strict accordance with CBUI internal regulations, the CBC overarching constitution, and applicable State laws of the Republic of Cameroon.
This appointment marks another key milestone in the leadership tenure of Rev. Dr. Teke John Ekema, who has been steering the Convention since his election in late 2024 and subsequent induction in January 2025.
Former GCE Board Registrar
Dr. Monono is most widely recognized across Cameroon for his tenure as the Registrar (Executive Secretary) of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education, GCE Board. He was appointed to the prestigious role by a Prime Ministerial order in March 2006, succeeding Dr. Omer Weyi Yembe. During his long leadership of the GCE Board, he managed significant structural changes, curriculum reviews, and infrastructural developments for the Anglo-Saxon examination system in Cameroon.
High-Level Educational Leadership
Prior to heading the GCE Board, Dr. Monono built a robust career within the Ministry of Secondary Education. His background includes roles as Principal of prestigious institutions, including Government High School, GHS Kumba and Government Bilingual High School GBHS Molyko, Buea.
He was also Director of Secondary Education in Yaoundé. And Inspector General in charge of General Education in the Ministry of Secondary Education. Where he oversaw the administrative control of schools nationwide. Similarly, Dr Mono President of the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa, AEAA, an international honor he was designated to in 2009.
Community Engagement
A native of the Fako Division in the South West Region, Dr. Monono has been deeply involved in community development, cultural preservation, and local politics. Notably, he has served as the Chairperson of the Bakweri Literacy and Language Association, BALALIA, helping coordinate cultural initiatives such as the Mokpe New Testament Bible translation project.
