Buea: Illicit Fuel Dealer Sets Car Ablaze

He was confronted for adulterating the fuel with kerosene which is detrimental to car engines.

A car with illicit fuel has been set ablaze in Buea opposite the head office of the Cameroon General Certificate of Education Board. The incident on Monday, June 22, 2026, caused a heavy traffic on the Buea main boulevard as the car burned for several minutes. A disagreement over fuel prices and quality broke out between a price control team of Buea illicit fuel union and a fuel dealer called Ismael. CT gathered that Ismael was selling 10 litres of fuel at FCFA 8,250 against the Buea harmonised illicit fuel price of FCFA 8,500. The price control team approached him and insisted he removes his price tag but he could sell his fuel at whatever price. After a lot of argument, the price tag was removed.
